The Jazzmooners is led by
Juli Wood and Kelly Brand with solid support from two of Chicago’s most experienced and hard swinging sidemen,
bassist, Kelly Sill and
drummer, Phil Gratteau.
The Jazzmooners play jazz favorites from Monk to Wayne Shorter as well as classic blues tunes from the repertoire of Etta James and Billie Holiday. All four musicians are well known in the Chicago area and have performed around the country and in Europe. Individually they are on a number of critically acclaimed CD’s and have accompanied numerous jazz greats including Marion McPartland, Roy Eldridge, Joe Henderson and Eddie Harris.
Juli Wood – “… a gutsy saxophonist who sings with the earthy gusto of a rhythm and blues diva” Jazz Times.
Kelly Brand – “She plays blunt sometimes Monkish ideas, but she has a polished attack and an especially graceful touch.” Neil Tesser, Ravinia program bio.
