Windy City Open Mic Songwriting Contest ~ Winter/Spring 2011

In order to encourage songwriters to produce new material Windy City Open Mic is giving away cash. There will be multiple winners and one grand prize winner. 5 categories are available to enter in addition to the grand prize.
Categories are:
1. Love Song
2. Record in the style of The Monkees
3. Chicago – a song to pay tribute to this great city because she needs a new tune
4. Pop or Rock Ballad
5. A song different from any other song you have ever written – at least 3 songs
that you have written need to be presented to show how the new song is unique
Songs must be new material, written since January 2011. Enter as often as you like, in as many categories as you wish. Each of the 5 will have a first place winner of $250! You may only win one first place prize in order for more musicians to participate. 2nd place winners receive $50. Songs may be instrumental or with vocals and MUST be performed at least one time at Open Mic Tuesdays at Uptown Lounge, 1136 W. Lawrence, Chicago, IL, hosted by Kat Fitzgerald. Before you perform, let Kat know you are entering your song in the contest. A recording of you performing the song needs to be submitted to her. This does not need to be professional. It will be used as a reference for entrance in the final competition. See Kat with questions about submitting the recording.
Grand Prize winner will receive $500! The grand prize winner may or may not also be the winner in one of the five categories. Winners and Prizes are at the sole discretion of the judges. Judges decisions are final. Winners must be present to win.
Songs are presented to Kat at Open Mic from now until April. Kat will chose the finalist in each category based on submissions. Songwriters must be available to attend the finals and perform their song to the panel of judges in order to win the prize money. Photos will be taken and may be used for publicity.
Yes, there are also other prizes! Many surprises … want to know more, well, for that you must get yourself to Uptown Lounge! Total in cash prize money to be given away is $2,000! Lots of opportunities to win!
Get those creative juices flowing and perform your original material at Uptown Lounge! Sign up begins at 7:00 pm with performances beginning about 8 pm. Performers typically play 3 songs which is at the discretion of Kat as the night ends at around 11:00 pm and to allow everyone time to share their talent. Each performer receives 1 free drink on the house in addition to the many drink specials.
