Kimberly Gordon Trio
Fri., Nov. 20, 2009 @ 8:00pm
Sat., Nov. 21, 2009 @ 8:00 pm
Wall Space Gallery is pleased to play host to Chicago’s Kimberly Gordon Trio with Andy Brown on guitar and Chris Foreman on organ.
Opening for the trio will be Ottawa’s own Garry Elliot on guitar and Vince Rimbauch on saxophone, both confident musicians who perform regularly at venues across the National Capital Region.
Vocalist Kimberly Gordon Trio has been a part of the American jazz scene for more than 15 years, playing top venues and receiving high acclaim from both critics and musicians.
Kimberly’s voice is sassy, sultry and as sensuous as the brassy tones of any tenor sax or as Neil Tesser, in Playboy’s Guide to Jazz, says: "If sapphires could sing, I imagine they’d have a similar sound . . ." .
The singer has spent several years in New York where she sang at The Village Vanguard and regularly at Smalls and Cleopatra’s Needle and at the famous Green Mill Lounge in Chicago. She’s shared the stage with jazz greats including Roy Hargrove, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
The other trio members are virtuoso keyboard player and master of the Hammond B-3, Chris Foreman, and guitarist Andy Brown.
Chris Foreman has played with Kimberly for more than 14 years, a long-time professional association that allows them to tie music and lyrics seamlessly.
Andy Brown has played professionally for almost 20 years, including stints in Cincinnati, New York and now Chicago recently played with Barbra Streisand on Oprah. His guitar-playing is “always melodic, understated, and involving”, according to Chicago Jazz Magazine and “another reason why Chicago is becoming a hot spot for guitar jazz."
The performances are being presented by a group of Ottowans, working to establish a permanent jazz venue in the National Capital Region.
