Product of a musical family Gwenyth “Wendy” Hayes has been playing music all her life and has grown to become one of most sought after bassists on the Chicago blues scene and beyond playing with both national and local artists. “Wendy” can be seen twice a week with 2 different Bands at the 2010 Chicago Music Award’s: “Best Blues Venue” Kingston Mines performing with Alligator Records recording artist Maurice John Vaughn and Delmark recording artist Quintus McCormick. Playing bass regularly with Quintus McCormick, Gwenyth Hayes is also featured as a backup singer on “Hey Jodie!” The Quintus McCormick Blues Band’s November 2009 release on Delmark label that has since been nominated for two 2010 Chicago Music Awards and as of January 2010 has reached #7 on the Living Blues Charts.
In September 2008 Miss Hayes was featured in and exclusive one page article: “Walking the Bass Line with Gwenyth Hayes” in BUDDY GUY’S LEGEND’S BLUESLETTER and while playing regularly at his world famous club Legend’s she has often played behind the Grammy Award winning Buddy Guy himself when he has sat in. Having toured with another blues chart climbing recording artist Murali Coryell she has had the privilege of playing behind his father legendary jazz guitarist Larry Coryell when he sat in.
In March 2008 she opened the show for blues legend B.B. King in at Shea’s Performing Art Center in Buffalo, NY. In 2007 she opened the First Annual Detroit Blues Festival with Cubie featuring artist such as: Clarence Carter, Mel Waiters, and Denise LaSalle in Chene Park Ampitheater.
She has played with Shirley King, the daughter of B.B. King, multiple Detroit Music Awards recipient Paul Miles, George Clinton P-Funk All-Star drummer, Gabe Gonzalez’ Enemy Squad with 2 basses opposite famous bass player T. Money Green (bass player on albums for Dr. Dre’s: The Chronic, 2Pac, Snoop Doggy Dog).
Now in Chicago Illinois, Miss Hayes is using her professional experience and her solid, “in-the-pocket” playing style to help lay the rhythmic foundation for various bands including but not limited to: Quintus McCormick and Cuervo Gold, Maurice John Vaughn, Jimmy Burns, Toronzo Cannon & the Cannonball Express, Charlie Love & the Silky Smooth Band, Byther Smith, Vance Kelly, Shirley King, Nigel Mack and the Blues Attack, Andre Taylor, Mike Dangeroux, Nellie “Tiger” Travis …
