Bobby Lewis – flugelhorn and trumpet

“Imagine the ardently lyric lines of Harry James, the hushed melodic poetry of Chet Baker, the impeccable good taste of Bobby Hackett, and you have the sources and the basic vocabulary of Bobby Lewis’ work”.  – Howard Reich, ChicagoTribune

Bobby’s career has spanned four decades from touring with Jack Teagarden, Tex Beneke and the Modernaires, and as conductor and featured soloist with Peggy Lee, to creating and leading several of his own groups in performances and at Jazz festivals all over the world. He has produced 9 CD recordings of his music, and as a studio musician has played on more than 7,500 recording sessions. Bobby’s love affair with music is still going strong!

Jim Ryan – pianist

A professional musician since 1962 in Los Angeles and Chicago, Jim Ryan has spent time in the recording studio as a performer, and writer/producer of commercial music for television and radio. From his keyboard work for Al Jarreau on the Grammy Award-winning album “All Fly Home” to touring and recording with a rock group called “THE MOB” in the 1960’s, Ryan’s piano artistry and musical sensitivity are well known in the musical world. He performs regularly with his own groups, as a soloist and with the Bobby Lewis Septet. Jim and Bobby continue to be sought after to perform in concert as a jazz duo, and Jim has appeared on all of the Bobby Lewis CD recordings for Southport Records.

Southport Records presents an ongoing series of events at Katerina’s on the first Saturday of every month!
