Magic, Rest in Peace
March 3, 1997-February 9, 2012
Magic, the famous Sparrow Sound Design and Southport Records Studio dog recently passed on and went to animal heaven. We kept thinking that she was going to be 14 years old, but she tricked us, she was going to be 15.
Magic had no formal studio training or musical lessons. In her dog heart she had the gift to bark on cue, or stay silent between studio takes. And what a face, as if nature painted permanent make up on her eyes and smile.
My late father taught her how to walk on her hind legs, and she could tread the length of the old studio on Southport. All that was needed was a dog treat. I think she also spoke several languages that often sounded Asian southern.
And when I would practice she would sit next to the pedals of the grand piano, eyes half opened. Always wondered what she heard…. music or just more life sounds.
